for Lent
At
S. James, during the weeks of Lent, we shall have many opportunities
to reflect on our lives and prepare ourselves for the saving
events of Holy Week and Easter.

of Reconciliation
Lent
is a time of penitence - being reconciled with God by repenting
of our sins, and receiving His forgiveness and grace. We should
ALL TRY TO MAKE OUR CONFESSION of sin sometime, either before
or during Lent, and certainly before Easter Day.
Confessions
are heard every week:
Tuesdays
at 6.00 pm
Thursdays
at 7.15 pm
Saturdays
at 10.00 am
Lent
This
is a time of forty days beginning on Ash Wednesday, and recalls
the forty days Jesus spent praying and fasting in the desert.
It is marked by sorrow for our sins and some form of penance,
to indicate that we are really trying to live as Christ showed
us. Lent ends with Holy Week, which includes Holy, or Maundy
Thursday, when we have the Last Super - this was the first Eucharist;
and also Good Friday when Christ died on the Cross.
Notes
for Lent
During
Lent we do not say or sing the 'Glory to God in the Highest'
or the Alleluias - so as not to anticipate the joy of Easter.
The
organ is silent (except when necessary to sustain singing), but
may be played on the 4th Sunday, Solemnities and Feasts.
Liturgical
colour for the season is purple.
The
church is not decorated with flowers

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Try to come to a weekday Mass
during Lent.
